Samedi/Saturday 04.05.2019. Port Kalamos
vent a commencé à forcer.

The wind has turned this night as expected and comes
in the bay but is weak when we get up. We have breakfast and then leave, the
wind began to increase. The other yacht left early this morning. We motor to
Port Kalamos, following the coast of Kalamos Island to the north. In one hour
we are there. Several yachts are in the port but there is still plenty of room.
A yacht is even alongside the dock. Georges, the owner of the largest taverna
in the port and who is the (unofficial) port chief, welcomes us and advises us
to put ourselves perpendicular to the dock. We say that we prefer the alongside
and he doesn’t insist but warns us that, perhaps, another boat will have to raft
on us. No problem. We've had the same discussion the other two times we've been
here. We go up in the village, very quiet, and go buy bread at the original
bakery. The baker explains us that he is open all year and has been there for
30 years. But since then, two other bakeries have settled here but are only
open during the season. It's a real war of bakeries with signs and posters, for
a village of less than 200 inhabitants. We walk to the big beach behind the old
mill and meet the Italians who were in Porto Leone at the same time as us. We
decide to have dinner together tonight. Jens and I are going to lunch at
George's house, a beer each and two “tapas” (not free here), then coffee on
Hera II and stillestund. It's gray, cool and windy, but the sun makes a brief
appearance and we go to a small beach a little closer than the big one hoping
to swim. Alas, the sun is hiding quickly and our swimming plans fall into the
water. Classic afternoon: DIY for Jens and blog for me, then, around 7 am, we
go, the Italians and us at Georges for dinner. Emma (6 years old) wants to be
seated between her mother and me and we speak together, in French, of cats,
dogs and other things and she tells me a secret by whispering in my ear that
her mother has her birthday tomorrow. After dinner we all return to Hera II for
a last drink. They brought a very good sweet wine from Pantelleria, a small
island between Sicily and Tunisia. Emma plays the hairdresser and I am her
client. We talk well together and they leave around 10 pm. The wind is strong
now, thunder roars and lightning light up the sky, we are happy to be in a good
harbor.
