Still gray and windy. Our neighbor leaves, raises his anchor
... and with it the rope of a buoy used to moor a fishing boat. He tries to go
forwards, backwards, nothing to do. But a guy from a catamaran moored at the
dock comes with his Zodiac to help. He puts on a diving mask and puts his head
in the water to see. It's nice, the water is cold. But even better, he removes
his T-shirt and dives! He manages to unhook the anchor from the mooring and comes
up. All the spectators, on the dock and on the boats applaud. Well done. The
woman on the sailboat goes down in her yacht and comes up with a present for
the diver, I don’t know what it is, I'm too far to see. We leave for our big
bike trip of the day: to go to Myrtos beach, a nice beach on the west coast. The
road goes up regularly and it's okay. We are well dressed to start with but we
undress a little on the road, when the road goes up we warm up quickly. Arrived
at a village where the road begins to descend towards the beach of Myrtos, we
take an orange juice. Jens talks with the guy who explains that from here you
can choose to go to the Myrtos beach or go further northwest and go to the
small port of Asos. We decide for Asos. And the road continues to climb, but
still "pedalable". We have a bird's eye view of the beautiful Myrtos
beach and the hairpin route down to it. Further on, we have a beautiful view of
Asos, and I realize that I had read a description of this port in our boat
guide but I did not realize at all that this is where we were going today, I
had forgotten the name. Nice surprise. And it is our turn to go down, a very
steep road, and to think that we are going up again soon. Asos is a picturesque
village and of course many tourist, even in May. We go to see the small port and
locate the few places deep enough if one day we come her with Hera II. Good
fish lunch at a taverna and we even eat the fries with good conscience, the
calories will be burned in the climb that awaits us. We see a yacht arrive, and
it's not easy, the harbor is not deep enough everywhere. And no one takes their
moorings, we would do it but we are far from the dock. They manage to tie their
boat and we go to talk with them, a young English couple with a dog. Then small
walk in the village, built on an isthmus between two "seas". And now
is the fateful hour of the climb ... that does not go too badly. We ride it
most of the time and only walk in the hairpin bends. It is surely good for the
heart and legs. At the top, we stop to rest a few minutes and drink abundantly.
Stop for orange juice at the same café as this morning and ride the long downhill
part to Agia Efimia, almost without pedaling. My dear husband wants to swim, so
we go (2 km more) to a small beach on the road to Sami. He bathes but not me,
the wind is cold and the water even more. We rode 36 km today and a lot of them quite steepy.
